Why is the Main Mall Proposed to Be Removed in the Master Site Plan Proposals?
02/12/2018
Two of the Master Site Plan proposals, Concept 2: ”Aspirational” and Concept 3: “Bold”, show the Main Mall concrete being removed to create open space. The nearly new Main Mall incorporates tributes to the Santa Ana Army Air Base and agriculture along with a fountain enjoyed by children during the hot days of the annual OC Fair.
One of the Fair Board Directors overseeing the Master Site Plan process is an employee of a building trades union with contracts with local construction companies which cover demolition and landscaping work. His employer could benefit from demolishing nearly new concrete and installing landscaping.
Demolishing the Main Mall is a waste of Public money, yet another example of poor management exercised by the Directors and staff, and a good reason to ask for changes to be made to the Directors and staff at the Fairgrounds.
